How to Fund Your Programs
How to Fund Your Program
Funding is available from more sources than you may have thought!
Additional funding for educational arts programs may be found through these resources:
Title 1 Discounts: Through the generosity of the Missouri Arts Council and other donors KCYA provides subsidies to qualified schools. These funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to the funds available. Choose the performance or workshop you would like to have and call us at 816-531-4022.
ESSER Funds: Ask your administrator if ESSER funds are available to pay for your arts education programs!
Your PTA/PTO: Many PTAs/PTOs are willing to raise money or already have money allocated to support arts enrichment activities. We are happy to come and present ideas to your PTA/PTO. Please call us at 816-531-4022 to set up a meeting.
A variety of grants are also offered by the Missouri Arts Council. The School Touring grant for schools outside of Kansas City and the Artist in Residence grant which is great for after-school programming are both available for schools and community agencies. The Big Yellow Bus grant will pay for transportation to arts related activities.
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA): Two giving areas for the NEA include Access to Artistic Experience and Learning for the Arts for Children and Youth.
National Assembly for State Arts Agencies (NASAA): NASAA is not a grant-making organization, but their website includes a list of foundations that support arts and culture.
Kids In Need Teacher Grants provide K-12 educators with funding to provide innovative learning opportunities for their students. The Kids In Need Foundation helps to engage students in the learning process by supporting our most creative and important educational resource — our nation's teachers.
Businesses: Corporations such as Target, Bank of America and Wal-Mart offer grants to schools. Visit the community relations page on their websites or stop by a local branch/store to ask how to apply for a grant.
Civic Groups: Civic groups such as the Junior League, Optimists, and Kansas City Young Matrons, etc., provide grants to organizations that serve children and families through the arts.
This website allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is the single access point for more than 1,000 grant programs.
Local Arts Councils: County arts councils may offer grants to schools in support of arts-based programming.
Local Foundations: Many local foundations such as the Francis Family Foundation will provide grants for arts programs in schools. The Small Arts Grants Fund is available for schools. (Please note that individual artists cannot apply for this grant.)

A New Location - A New Era in Arts Education
The top priority of the Mayor's Task Force for the Arts is more arts education opportunities for children. And it's easy to see why. It's proven that when arts education is woven into classroom curriculum, students are more excited about learning...achievement levels rise...and school attendance soars. We're ready to step into the next era of empowering children with confidence, creativity and boundless opportunity in and through the arts.
KCYA stands poised with our paintbrush in the air, a blank canvas before us...the new location on Main Street gives us the opportunity to respond to the needs of children in our community in ways never before imagined! We know our new building will allow us to fully embrace our role as an arts leader and hub of creativity. With increased space we can host classes, workshops. and new programs. We can gather artists and educators to collaborate on exciting new programs that will benefit children all over the city - especially those without equal access to arts education.
