More Info:
The Festival produces an annual production of a Shakespeare play, presented free to the public at Southmoreland Park, a pocket park located directly west of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The Festival, founded in 1993, has presented more than 26 productions, reaching more than 470,000 audience members.
In addition to the annual Festival in Southmoreland Park, our education programs reach thousands of young people and adults year-round through community programs, Team Shakespeare, The Shakespeare Studio, touring performances, and the Festival’s signature program, Camp Shakespeare.
From its beginning, the Festival has been committed to providing high quality professional productions and educational opportunities to our community. The Festival operates under an agreement with Actors' Equity Association and employs professional actors and educators every summer, under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director, Sidonie Garrett. The Festival also utilizes the finest design and technical talent in the city to create first-rate productions that bring the genius and beauty of Shakespeare to life.
