Tara Varney

Tara Varney is an actor, singer, director, and playwright. After receiving her BFA in Theatre at SMSU (now MSU) and working at various theatres around the country, she made her way back to her hometown of Kansas City in 1996, where she has worked steadily in professional theatre. Tara’s favorite roles have been Agnes in I Do! I Do!, Percy in Spitfire Grill, Sister Hubert in Nunsense, Kathy and/or Mo in The Kathy and Mo Show, and Agnes in Dancing at Lughnasa. She has co-written and directed a play for the Kansas City Fringe Festival every year since 2008, and all have been in the top ten best-attended plays of the festivals. She was awarded an ArtsKC Inspiration Grant in 2012, had an exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum (November, 2012 – March, 2013), and has been a Dickens Caroler since 2004. Tara’s been a theatre educator for nearly a decade.
