Kit Bardwell received a Bachelor of Music from the North Carolina School of the Arts and a Master of Music from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Both degrees are in vocal performance. Since 1979 she has worked in Kansas City in all aspects of the performing arts, which include, singing with the Chorale Arts Ensemble (now the Kansas City Chorale) and numerous churches, dancing with the Westport Ballet, City in Motion and the Lyric Opera, as well as acting, choreographing, costuming and directing music at The Coterie.
Kit has a long association with KCYA. She began by touring an early music group, The Queen’s Court Players, in 1982. In 1987 she founded the Pocket Theatre, a touring theatre company that performed participatory plays. Through the Pocket Theatre, she provided numerous Young Audiences workshops and programs. Kit also worked on the Young Audiences’ staff as Program Director from 1997-1999. Now, newly retired from teaching Music, Art and Drama at Horizon Academy, Kit is delighted to rejoin the KCYA roster as a teaching artist.
