Spring Dance Performance Class
Performing is an important part of a dancer’s training!
KCYA's process-based classes teach students the fundamentals of the art form. In dance, they may learn ballet positions, proper body alignment, choreography and even terminology. This performance class provides dancers with the opportunity to utilize the skills and talents developed in class in a bigger production, with their classmates, on stage and for an audience. Performing is such an important part of an arts education, we hope your child will join us!
IMPORTANT DATES:
April 13 - Deadline for Early Enrollment Discount (Save 15%)
April 27 - All dancers must be enrolled.
May 6-20 Rehearsals at KCYA
May 21: First rehearsal at Rockhurst High School
May 22: Dress Rehearsal at Rockhurst High School
May 23: Spring Dance Performance at Rockhurst High School at 6:30pm
PERFORMANCE FEES:
Fees include: enrollment, costumes, one performance T-shirt and 2 complimentary tickets
$145.00 per dancer in any class (except Ballet IV, V, VI)
$165.00 per dancer in Ballet IV – VI)
(a 4% registration fee will be added by our class management software)
Pre-Ballet and Tiny Dancers are invited to participate in the Tiny Dancer Showcase on May 4th.

REGISTRATION:
Enrollment is due by: April 30
Please note, all students sign up as individuals to perform with their class. If participation in a given class is low, students may be combined with another class for the performance which may affect rehearsal dates.
Active Camp and Class Manager tips:
- Performer’s t-shirt size should be completed when filling out the registration form
- Additional t-shirts and flower orders may be found under Merchandise Items
Tickets:
Each dancer will receive two complimentary tickets. Additional tickets may be purchased at the KCYA office or at the door on the night of the show. Tickets are $7 each. Audience seating will begin 30 minutes before performance start time.
T-shirts:
One show t-shirt is included in the enrollment fee; additional shirts will be available for purchase at registration ($15) or by contacting LaTeesha (816.531.4022, Ljackson@kcya.org) before April 30.
Conflicts:
Please review the rehearsal schedule as soon as possible. We ask that you make arrangements during this time to ensure your attendance. If you know of scheduling conflicts during rehearsals, we ask that you email before you register. We may be able to accommodate your scheduling conflict. Please contact the office at 816.531.4022 and Miss Kim should last minute scheduling challenges arise.
Performance photos & videos:
Professional videos of the performance will be available after the performance. Mark@marktitus.com. Professional photo`graphs by Lea Murphy Photography will also be available for purchase, more information to come. TBA
Illness:
We ask that you contact the office to report any absences due to illness (816.531.4022).
Parent Volunteers:
At least one parent volunteer will be needed for each class. The volunteer will assist with costume fittings and supervision of the dancers at rehearsals and during the performance. Volunteers will be able to watch the show with the dancers. Please email Brianna Bhutton@kcya.org if you'd like to be a parent volunteer.
Costumes and Make-up:
There are no additional costume fees; however, each dancer is expected to provide their own basic underpinnings including: camisole/leotard for modesty, tights/bottoms and shoes.
- Costumes will be provided by and returned to KCYA and will generally slip on over these base pieces for rehearsals and fittings, so form-fitted pieces are best.
- Light or flesh-tone camisoles are recommended for wearing under costumes.
- Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail, pigtails or ballet bun which will be determined by your teacher. An email with more information will be sent closer to the show date.
- Make-up is not provided or recommended for our dancers, but natural light foundation, blush and/or lipstick can be worn at your discretion.
- Fingernail polish or colored nails should be removed for dress rehearsal and performance.
- Dancers should arrive with their hair and make-up completed whenever possible.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
Most rehearsals will be at typical class time, until Performance week. Students are expected to attend all rehearsals. Attendance is vital for the safety of the dancers and the success of the performance.
COSTUME BASICS
Dancers should wear these items for all rehearsals and performances:
Ballet III, IV, V, VI
- Females: pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers, flesh colored camisole leotard
- Males: black leggings or pants, black socks, black ballet slippers
- Soloists in Ballet V-VI may have additional requirements (more details to come)
Lyrical, Modern, Main Street Dancers
- Females: pink footed tights, camisole leotard, ballet slippers
- Males: black leggings or pants, black socks, black dance shoes/black ballet slippers
Tap/Jazz Combo I-III
- Females: black footed tights, black camisole leotard, black tap shoes
- Males: black leggings or pants, black socks, black tap shoes
Hip Hop I, II Thursday; Hip Hop I & II Monday
- Females: black pants or leggings, black camisole/tank, black sneakers
- Males: black pants, leggings, black t-shirt, black sneakers
Ballet I Monday and Saturday
- Females: pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers, flesh colored camisole leotard
- Males: black leggings or pants, black socks, black ballet slippers
Hip Hop/Jazz; Dance for Musical Theater, Latest Dance Craze
- Females: black leggings, black camisole/tank, black sneakers or jazz shoes
- Males: black leggings or pants, black t-shirts, black sneakers or jazz shoes
