Performing Arts Lab
(multi-disciplinary class: theatre, dance, music)
This class is the perfect fit for the student who loves it all or wants to give the world of performing a try. Provide your enthusiastic dancer, budding actor, or sensational musician with a sampling of artistic experiences. A professional teaching artist will work with your child to provide instruction in dance, drama and music. Your child will have the opportunity to explore his or her own talents and interests while becoming a well-rounded artist. Suitable for: beginners

Creative Drama
This imaginative class is for the little ones who like to act out stories and play pretend. Each week, students will take a journey to a faraway land. Children’s books, poems, costumes and props will be used to bring adventures to life. The teaching artist will emphasize fun and students often lead the way. The final class will incorporate a sharing for parents to take part in the magic! Suitable for: beginners

Acting
(Beginning, Intermediate, & Advanced)
Beginning: Imagination required! In this dynamic class, students will use theatre games and improvisational scene work to study the fundamentals of performance. Warm-ups, physical movement and character work will all be used to overcome inhibitions and awaken the inner actor. Students will learn the basics of rehearsing and performing simple scenes.
Intermediate and Advanced: Students will increase their knowledge of how to create theatrical characters. Voice and diction, physical movement, and improvisation will all be used to hone their acting skills. The process of creating theatre will also be examined through the eyes of the playwright, director and designers. Suitable for: beginners - experienced.

This advanced acting class is for students who have already taken two or more acting (or performance) classes at KCYA and would like to further hone their craft. Class activities will include, theatrical skill building, audition workshops, script analysis, theatre history, and advanced scene work. *Students must also be enrolled in an Intermediate or Advanced Acting or Improv class.

Improv

Improvisational techniques, performance skills, and imagination are all it takes to create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes. No scripts or props needed! Students will work with a professional teaching artist to develop their own comedic style. Advanced Improv is for the student who has had acting or improv before and is ready for more challenging material.
