Performing Arts Lab

(multi-disciplinary class: theatre, dance, music)

 

This class is the perfect fit for the student who loves it all or wants to give the world of performing a try. Provide your enthusiastic dancer, budding actor, or sensational musician with a sampling of artistic experiences. A professional teaching artist will work with your child to provide instruction in dance, drama and music. Your child will have the opportunity to explore his or her own talents and interests while becoming a well-rounded artist.

Beginning Acting

 

Imagination required! In this dynamic class, students will use theatre games and improvisational scene work to study the fundamentals of performance. Warm-ups, physical movement and character work will all be used to overcome inhibitions and awaken the inner actor. Students will learn the basics of rehearsing and performing simple scenes while staying socially distant.

Improv Adventure

 

Improvisational techniques, performance skills, and imagination are all it takes to create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes. No scripts or props needed! Students will work with a professional teaching artist to develop their own comedic style while staying socially distant.

Intermediate Acting

 

In this class students will increase their knowledge of how to create theatrical characters. Diction, physical movement, and improvisation will all be used to hone their acting skills while staying socially distant.  The process of creating theatre will also be examined through the eyes of the playwright, director and designers.

Advanced Improv

 

This class is for the student who has had acting or improv before and is ready for more challenging material. Students will work with a professional teaching artist to develop their own comedic style and collaborate with classmates while staying socially distant.

Main Street Players

 

This advanced acting class is for students who have already taken two or more acting (or performance) classes at KCYA and would like to further hone their craft. Class activities will include, theatrical skill building, audition workshops, script analysis, theatre history, and advanced scene work.
