Camp Comedy: Friday Night Live
Create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes similar to Saturday Night Live using improvisational techniques, performance skills, and your imagination. Campers will work in small age appropriate groups with professional teaching artists to develop their comedic style and put it all together for a performance for family and friends.

You will love this comprehensive and energizing week of dance! This is a great opportunity to become a versatile dancer by learning the fundamentals of a
wide variety of dance forms. Each morning you will study the basics of ballet and jazz. Building on this knowledge, you will take workshops in modern, tap, African Dance, flamenco, and improvisation. Learn how to create your own dance pieces using your new skills in choreography workshops. Impress your family and friends with your new steps at the final presentation on Friday.

This new camp features workshops that allow students to learn more about the history and aesthetic expression of hip-hop culture. Learn to D-J, rap, dance (breaking and popping), and create graffiti art. Students will learn how hip-hop can be
a positive, productive form of creative self-expression.

Jellybean Conspiracy Inclusive Camp
Learn what it means to be a Jellybean! This music and theatre focused camp is designed to bring together children to learn about the power of theatre to teach kindness and acceptance. Designed for children with and without disabilities, this camp experience is a perfect opportunity for children with disabilities to participate with their typical siblings and peers. Campers will learn performance skills and theatre crafts while preparing a performance of the new Jellybean play – “No Such Thing As Normal”, a musical about autism. This camp is a collaboration between the Community School of the Arts,
VSA arts of Missouri and the Jellybean Conspiracy.

SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENTS! If your child requires one-on-one attention, no registration fee will be charged for a personal attendant. The Community School for the Arts cannot provide personal attendants; families must arrange for them. Children using wheelchairs must be able to transfer by themselves or the family must provide a personal attendant (personal attendants also need to send in a registration form).
Learn how to take a play from the page to the stage! During this fun-filled week, you will form your own theatre troupe, and become producer, director, stage manager, designer, actor/actress...all rolled into one. Create and build your own costume, make-up and set designs. Includes your own theatrical make-up kit.

You will learn how to put these three essential elements together in an energetic and compelling manner. Learn how to create your own musical in playwriting, songwriting, and choreography workshops. Calling all detectives! There’s been a crime! Who solves it? You do! You and your campmates will stage your own “whodunit” using theatrical techniques to create and build suspense. Perform your mystery production for your family and friends on Friday!

Have a blast making people laugh! Back by popular demand, those zanies from Right Between the Ears (produced by Kansas Public Radio) will take you on a journey through live radio comedy. Learn how to create an entire world for your audiences using your voice, a microphone, sound effects, and your imagination. The week culminates with a performance before a ‘live studio audience’.

Explore the brave new world of digital film making with Kansas City Art Institute instructor and producer, Joel Jenkins. Use your digital video camera, imagination and inventiveness to tell a story. Learn how to choose the right shot to create believable emotions and how subtle changes in editing can make or break your film. Group and independent projects may be uploaded to You Tube at the end of this exciting week. This class meets at UMKC. Campers need to bring their own lunches or cash to purchase lunch at the student cafeteria.
