Ensemble Percussion

 

Students will learn technique and repertoire of Latin music and modern variants from Cuba, with some Western influence. Instruments (provided) used include conga drums, bata drums, cajones (wooden boxes), kata, claves, shekere and cowbells. Students will also learn songs in Spanish.

West African Dance & Drumming

 

Children will be delighted and energized as they learn proper balance and technique for West African Dance and Drumming. The drumming portion of this class allows students to learn slap, tone, base and flam techniques. The dance portion offers the opportuntity to improve performance skills, and allows children to express themselves. This class is designed to improve your child's self-esteem, concentration and cultural awarness. Students will study century old rhythms that depict harvesting, fishing and life from Mali, Senegal and Guinea. Wear dance/workout clothes and come have fun and learn in an up beat environment with live musical accompaniment.

Garage Band

 

You will have the opportunity to play, collaborate, and create with others in a 'garage' rock band format. Every member will have the chance to try out the various instruments and roles: electric guitar, keyboard, and vocals. Through experimentation and practice, the group will create its own unique sound.

Kansas City Boys Choir and Kansas City Girls Choir

 

These performing choirs are designed for the music lover, providing some choral training.    The choir is directed by Ah’Lee Robninson, Director of the Community School of the Arts and Artistic Director for the Kansas City Boys Choir and the Kansas City Girls Choirs.   The choir performs (2) annual concerts, Spring and Winter and performs many private and special events throughout the city and travels out of the state.   Auditions are required and will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2008.
