Summer Camps for Tween People

Camps for Tween People are designed for students ages 8-13 years-old. All camps meet Monday - Friday unless otherwise noted.  All camps conclude with a 'sharing' for family and friends. Campers need to bring a sack lunch. Camp fees include snacks and a camp photo. 
Multi-Camp (or kid) Discount: enroll in 2 or more weeks of camp and save!  More camps equal more savings!  


 

Acting Out Camp

Imagination required!  In this dynamic half-day camp students will study the fundamentals of performance and hone their acting skills.  Warm-ups, vocal work, movement, games and character work will all be used to overcome inhibitions and awaken the inner actor. This camp may be combined with Backstage Basics to make a full day of fun!

Backstage Basics

The process of creating theatre will be examined through the eyes of the designers. If your student wants to know what makes the play come to life then this is the camp for them. Set design, scene painting, costume design, and stage make-up will all be explored.  This camp may be combined with Acting Out for a full day of fun!

Ballet Intensive (ages 10-18)

This camp provides a technical and creative boost for the intermediate to advanced ballet dancer. Special emphasis will focus on improving classical ballet technique, core strength, and artistry. Art projects designed to build self-esteem and leadership skills will round out this exciting Summer Ballet Intensive. Open to KCYA students in Ballet III-V and intermediate or advanced students from other studios.

Build A Toy

Campers will bring their imaginations to life in this exciting camp! They will learn how to dream, design and make their own toys in this week-long adventure. From soccer balls to kites, this camp gives students the power to create their own fun!

Circus Camp

This camp offers a unique and challenging opportunity to delve into the circus arts. Students will learn clowning, hula-hooping, ribbon dancing, magic tricks and more! The week will conclude with a circus for family and friends to show off their new skills!

Girl of the Year

This fun camp offers students a chance to celebrate summer with their 18 inch dolls. Activities will include making accessories for their doll, visual arts projects, and acting out stories. Part of each day will be focused on the American Girl Doll of the year, Gabriela, and her love of dance and poetry!

Hip Hop Express Camp (3-day camp)

Pick up some of the hottest hip hop dance moves this summer! Students will learn high-energy group choreography using hip-hop dance elements such as pop locking, tumbling and more! Explore elements of freestyle, create a hip- hop "crew" name and a t-shirt for the Friday Showcase for friends and family. Hip hop style is urban, it's street, it's diverse, and forever changing - best of all, you'll love it!   Hip Hop Dance, Move to the Beat rhythm Exploration and Tumbling are all included.

Improv Adventure

Campers will create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes similar to Saturday Night Live using improvisational techniques, performance skills, and their imaginations.  Campers will work with professional teaching artists to develop their own comedic style and put it all together for a performance for family and friends.

Let's Dance Camp

Students will love this comprehensive and energizing week of dance!  This is a great opportunity to become a versatile dancer by learning various styles.  Camp may include ballet, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre styles.  Dancers will impress family and friends with their new steps at the final presentation on Friday.  No prior dance experience required.

Let's Put on a Show

Students will learn how to take a play from the page to the stage!  During this fun-filled week, they will form a theatre troupe, and become producer, director, stage manager, designer, actor/actress...all rolled into one.  Campers will create and build their own costume, make-up and set designs.

Musical Theatre Camp

Become a triple threat!  Campers will sing, dance, and act their way through a fun-filled week of musical theatre.  Focusing on scenes from a Broadway Musical, they will learn how to put these three essential elements together in an energetic and compelling manner.  Wow family and friends at the Friday afternoon performance that concludes the camp!

Puppet Play with StoneLion Puppets

In this fresh and inventive camp students will explore the vast world of puppetry. Students will make several kinds of puppets as well as learn how to use their voice and body to bring a character to life. Camp is taught by a professional puppeteer from StoneLion Puppets.

Visual Art 

Campers will spend the week exploring their inner artist as they work with professional teaching artists to develop visual art skills.  The week will include multiple arts mediums!  Campers will be amazed with the fantastic pieces they will have to take home at the end of this great camp!
