CharCarol’s love of music began at a very early age and continues as she serves others in the rewarding career of music therapy. After earning a Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance, and a Master of Arts degree in music therapy, she launched Therapeutic Sounds, a private contracting business dedicated to serving clients in the Kansas City area.
Her research interests are geared towards developing innovative music interventions that will engage urban youth. CharCarol has presented her research at national, regional and local conferences on topics related to working with at-risk youth. Additionally, CharCarol has developed an interactive Hip Hop therapeutic curriculum designed as an outreach program to facilitate positive self-expression, prevent negative outcomes, and increase positive social interactions among adolescents.
Her clinical work experience includes: Ozanam- a residential facility serving children and families; Gillis - a residential school serving at-risk children and families; Operation Breakthrough- a full service facility dedicated to helping children in poverty; Synergy, and several other community organizations that serve youth. Additionally she is the co-founder and administrator for the Young Jazz Masters of Kansas City, a jazz preparatory program aimed at serving Kansas City youth who are interested in performing jazz music.
