Village Crawfish Festival

As part of the year-long celebration, the 10th Annual Village Crawfish Festival on Saturday, May 7 benefitted KCYA. The proceeds from the event were split with Head Start of Shawnee Mission, a long time beneficiary of the Festival.

Hosted by the Secret Order of the Crawdaddies (SOC), the Crawfish Festival was held from 6pm to 11pm at 7231 Mission Road in Prairie Village, KS. The event began with the ceremonial release of the first crawfish by this year’s Crawfish Queen, Cynthia Williams – KYCA’s 50th Anniversary Chair, who was crowned at the event.

More than 700 pounds of crawfish were flown in from New Orleans, boiled and served buffet style as part of the event. Guests also enjoyed Kansas City BBQ, beer and wine while they listened and danced to live music by Ernest James Zydeco, an accordion-based blues band.

Be sure to join us next year - save the date: May 5, 2012!

  • "We were blown away by the kids and that show. Their comedic timing was amazing. I think it's because you gave them permission to develop the characters. It was really fun!  Our daughter said she wants to always do the KCYA camps. She was sorry it was over. You have a great gift working with the kids."
