Acting & Theatre Classes begin September 2017

Fall classes begin on Tuesday, September 5th and run through Saturday, December 9th.  All classes will take place at our home at 3732 Main Street.

Creative Drama 

Does your little one like to act out stories and play pretend? Then this imaginative class is for them! Each week, students will take a journey to a faraway land. Children’s books, poems, costumes and props will be used to bring adventures to life. Teachers emphasize fun and students often lead the way. The final class will incorporate a sharing for parents to take part in the magic!

Beginning Acting

Imagination required!  In this dynamic class students will use theatre games and improvisational scene work to study the fundamentals of performance.  Warm-ups, vocal exercises, movement and character work will all be used to overcome inhibitions and awaken the inner actor.  Students will learn the basics of rehearsing and performing simple scenes that will be shared with family and friends during the last class.

Intermediate Acting 

In this class students will increase their knowledge of how to create a character for the stage. Voice and diction, character movement and improvisation will all be used to hone their acting skills.  The process of creating theatre will also be examined through the eyes of the playwright, director and designers. Come explore what makes someone else tick! Scene work will be shared with family and friends on the last day.

Musical Theatre

Become a triple threat!  Students will sing, dance, and act their way into musical theatre.  Students will focus on scenes and popular songs from Broadway Musicals.  This creative and fun class teaches students how to combine the elements of musical theatre in an energetic and compelling manner.  The class will culminate in a performance for family and friends.

Improvisational techniques, performance skills, and imagination are all it takes to create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes. No scripts or props needed! Students will work with a professional teaching artist to develop their own comedic style and put it all together for a performance for family and friends. Improv classes have an additional performance opportunity at the Buffalo Room each semester.

Beginning Juggling

NEW! Students will work on traditional toss juggling with scarves and bean bags. As they gain proficiency, they will learn intermediate tricks and partner juggling. They will also explore a variety of other skill props including spinning plates, flower sticks, kendamas, and Chinese yo-yos (diabolos).

Advanced Improv

This advanced class will broaden students improvisational techniques and sketch comedy experiences. This class will teach quick thinking and teamwork all while creating unique and hilarious characters. Teen Playwriting

Experienced teen writers and those new to the craft welcome. Students will explore different writing styles and genres while also sharing and giving constructive feedback to each other. The goal, by the end, will be to have staged readings of 10 minute and micro plays.

Teen Filmmaking

Welcome to Film Class 101.  You will be working with Emmy nominated writer / producer / editor Sandy Woodson.  Sandy spent 17 years as a video and television producer for KCPT.  You will work in small groups and learn the basics of writing a script, scouting locations, creating a shot list, lighting, capturing audio, shooting and editing while creating your own 1 - 3 minute film.

Take your acting knowledge to the next level! In this advanced class students will increase their acting knowledge by practicing focus, listening, vocal techniques and defining character objectives.
